Default 7/23/11 - Big Lake Night Trip

As usual the wind picked once the sun went down (that has been the pattern all summer) except this time it kept getting worse. By the time we stopped fishing at 1:30, the wind was blowing 22knots and it was steady 18 or more from 9:00 on.

We fished several spots with both plastic and live bait and ended with 8 flounder and 10 trout. It was our slowest night trip so far but that happens when you can't find clean water. We had a couple of other boats fishing with us that also had lights, they caught fewer fish than we did. Oh well, that will make the next blockbuster trip that much more fun.

No pictures, I haven't been downstairs to the boat shed this morning yet to clean the fish.

Thanks for the report Casey. This summer has had a strange wind pattern for sure! Did everybody have fun? That's the main thing as far as I'm concerned.

Let me know the next time you want to catch a limit on skrimps.

least you weren't skunky ckin....and the wind patterns have been all jacked up the last 4 years....more west winds....less afternoon showers....and as kinchicken said.....winds picking up as the sunsets.

I was talking about this with someone yesterday. Several years ago it seemed like an east wind was the norm (which is great for big lake) and the wind laid down at night and of course we had rain every afternoon.

We are lucky if we get 8 days with an east wind all summer and anything under 15 knots at night is a blessing.
