Default Prien Lake 8-3-11

The phone shut up in the office for a while so I decided to go hit Prien Lake for an afternoon trip. Caught 4 reds and 3 Flounder for supper. Caught about 20 fish altogether. 1 small flounder, 1 big drum, 2 sheeps and a big gaftop kitty cat along with some croakers for good luck. Did not catch one speck. Guess the rain pushed them down. All the flounder came on gulp shrimp and caught all but one of the reds on that white bandit crankbait in the picture. It's an old crankbait that I spray painted white and put some red mark-a-lot lines on it. I love the way those reds knock the fire out of it when they decide to get it. I changed the original hooks to some bigger bite VMC's and swithed the split ring on the nose to a bigger size as well. There will be redfish/flounder fish patties in the grease tomight!!!

Nice catch...I love catching reds on cranks too. In clear water you can run them just under the surface and watch reds submarine one them.

I have a baby 1 minus in my box waiting for that action. These fish were all in about 4-6 foot of water and hit it about 3 foot under the surface. Can't wait for cooler weather and shallower reds.

The baby minus one works good. I prefer the mid 1 minus. Manns makes a saltwater version that is beefed up and cast better than the lighter baby model. Only problem is they are hard to find. I bought some from manns website. Here is a pic of the saltwater version compared to the baby on the right.

Those are nice baits. You think Cabelas or Bass Pro would have them? Whe you say Mid Minus does that mean it runs a little deeper?

Never checked bass pro or cabelas store, just online. Both have the freshwater version of the mid,but no saltwater colors. They run a foot deep like the baby, just bigger and heavier. Reds really smoke em and they hold up good too.

Thanks to both of you for the report and the Baby 1 minus info, I didn't know that.
