actually bacteria are opportunistic pathogens... if you have ever studied a bacterial growth curve you would notice a trend of growth directly proportional to its environment in which it thrives.

actually sewer lines will not affect our ecosystem in South Louisiana because they are designed to breakdown the components in the sewer lines. a cypress swamp and marsh can do wonders compared to a sewer treatment facility. a lot of fail going on in this thread... very uneducated people talking on topics they know nothing about |

well.. both of their arguments are flawed... oil "eating" microbes have increased exponentially over the past year and a half and swamps/marsh is natures own sewer treatment facility which is actually more efficient than the ones humans have made.
IMO, the oil is still out there. I have my reasons... what this study fails to mention is the unusual amount of FRESHWATER that was introduced into the ecosystem this year... that along with the extremely cold winter of the past two years can be having an effect the shell fish and other fishes in the ecosystem.. independent of the oil itself. do i think it is related. SURE. what to what extent... probably not as significant as the study shows... one thing is certain about scientists these days... they all want to get published and they all want to win awards to recognize their accomplishments... which leads to premature conclusions and error |

They can increase exponentially in two days time. Just because something CAN break down a substance, doesn't mean that is all they consume. Trees take up CO2, but what people fail to realize is that they also give off some CO2, they are not some huge CO2 'sponge'. These are not some science fiction bacteria that just engulf a gallon of substance a day, there simply is not enough of them to do the job, and after the dispersant was added, that likely changed the composition of the oil and the bacteria will not consume that.

fwiw, bacteria can increase exponentially over a VERY LONG period of time.. as long as their environment supports it... you are relating a bacterial growth curve in regards to humans... sure after 2 days, their environment is no longer favorable because the body is fighting against it. (its usually longer than 2 days though.. you just think its 2 days because that is at the height of your symptoms when your body is already fighting it off.. of course its species dependent) |

I also believe its still out there and the bottom of the sea floor is a cold place, not beneficial to most bacteria, so maybe it will sit there and nothing will ever come of it, lets hope ![]() "W" if you want to go see oil STILL in the marsh there are places still impacted and a few people can point you in the right direction |

Like some have said, there will always be oil via seepage and leaks.
My question is what harm did the million gallons of corexit applied to break up ( read sink) the oil do to the enviroment and the clean up workers? |

Let's get this stright
#1..for every place you can dig up oil on the East side....I can dig up oil here on the west side #2 We had real biologist (not ones from New York) and oil eating bacteria in our gulf waters will triple it growth on oil in warm water.. #3 Reason why when the well was capped the oil was gone! #4 one gallon of oil will spread 5 miles wide... Oil has been washing up on our beaches and marshes for a 100 years Go cry some where else |

im not crying , but one of my good buddies put a lot of effort and time into doing a study that PROVED the oil has had an effect on certian fish ....he didnt do this study to hurt the oil industry but rather protect our fishery.... and i promise you would be cryin like a little beach if oil from the bp spill go anywhere close to little pond !! you are right there are a bunch of trash with their hand out , but there are also alot of hard working people that were affected as well
