Sounds like a great lady! Don't worry about the growing apart deal. I'm sure she's proud of you for making your own way in life. I know when my grandma was close to the end she did the same thing as yours with talking to my grandpa, who had passed away years before.
Get there and I'm sure that alone will provide a good bit of comfort for you both. God Bless and drive safe in your travels.
