dont worry about nothing being planted in the field. Rice only stays good for about 30 days after it hits the ground. After that the only thing for the birds to eat is the stubble and roots and that is preferred by the geese. A field that has natural weeds growing in it is better because the seeds are more harty and last longer than rice. I have had much better luck when my field was set aside as compared to when in rice.
