cost for part is 25 to 45$. not too hard to change. i did 2 diff ones last year. had never done it before til then. took me less than 30 minutes to change. i think it was one plug to undo and one bolt. auto store will tell you which one to change with their computer

DEPENDS WHICH IGNITION SYSTEM YOU HAVE, COULD COST UP TO $300 per cylinder. but a receipt from the mechanic should have the cost of part and labor separate because tax should only be charged on parts and not service. Current labor cost is $99 an hour.

Thanks. The part was 75 and it took him about 30 min. He charged 150 so I guess he did me right.

Just my opinion. But $75 is a lil steep for a coil pack.

Dealer coil is about $75 & one from auto parts is $45. Don't forget he had to diagnose the vehicle also, then test drive to confirmed it was fixed. They use published labor times regardless of how long it take to complete the repair.

To me, $75 for 10min (he spent about 20 min waiting for the part) is a hefty labor charge weather it's published or not. I guess that's the price you pay for not knowing what you are doing. And he skipped test drive part. He never started the truck.

One bolt, unplug coil, change coil, plug in, bolt up. Finished. I just don't see $150. And the only way most places charge you a diagnostic fee is if u don't get it repaired there

you see $75 for part, $75 for labor! oh yall think people should work for free! I bet there are people with jobs on this site that charge people a premium price for there service which would be easy if someone knew how to do it, but since they don't they pay you and your hating on a mechanic for making a living. I have things at my work that we charge people hundreds of $$$ for and its easy cheap work, its not called ripping off its called capitalism and service.

Nevermind the $10k scanner, his experience, his lease and insurance. We business owner are LOADED!
You're not paying them for how fast they can do something. You're paying them for what they know. You could changed 4 or more of those coils before you figured out which one was it which would make his service look pretty dang cheap, nevermind the frustration factor! |

All I'm trying to tell him is he could've done it himself for a 1/3 of the price. And I don't expect u to work for free and I never said he got ripped off. I just said it was a little steep!

things may have changed but the last time I let them hook up on my truck all they could tell me was what code was showing so, more or less it would have only told you missfire or bad coil but not the specific problem or coil.
