Here is my question, what do you do to protect your equipmtent? I have heard of people washing the reels but not sure if that is enough. I don't have expensive equipment but I want to preserve what I have. Thanks |

oil good ......some cheep reels i have i pack lightly with Vaseline. also if u can keep them from the salt water it helps but i know i have trouble with that. also dint let them dry then wash it makes it harder to get the salt to dissolve. |

I keep my reels coated with reel magic and rinse after every trip then re-spray. No issues with 3 years saltwater fishing on same 3 reels.

Ditto to what was said above. I also drop mine off at least once a year at the Tackle Box to have them cleaned - it makes a world of difference...

Don't soak in a bucket of water. You don't want water

inside the reel Light spray to get salt dissolved back into the water. Then another light spray to rinse it all off. A good coat of wax on rod will protect it too. Reelman in Bell City said to just wipe off with something like 50/50 Simple Green and water. No hard spray of water or it will get into the reel. |

Get a spray bottle & put some vinegar in it to spray the reel, vinegar works great to get rid of salt, then rinse with water.

I rinse off with water, keep them oiled and greased. reel magic I'll use as a line conditioner and I spray it on my guides. I also change my line once a month, if I fish every week. I also keep my rod and reels out of the sun when they're not in use, I keep them in my room, instead of a hot shed or storage unit. I don't know if it matters but, I figure if my shed ever gets broke into I'm not out of thousands of dollars rods and reels.
