Default Pierre Part 1/18

Tuesday night got an invite to go fishing in Pierre Part with my buddy Garret who is leaving for boot camp in less than a month and his friend Picou who just enlisted in the Army. Went to Garret's to get set up only to find 3 of us were to pile into a 14 foot Cajun Special with a 20hp Go-Devil...I wasn't doing it. Called my brother to see if we could take his Allison.

He said sure, only I had to relace the negative wire from the starter to the relay in the boat back to the battery after it melted the coating off. Got it replaced with the much needed help of Picou. After that, went to Albany for Fowler's going away party.

Got hooked up to the boat around 0430 at Steven's and went back to my house to pick up Garret and Picou. Got to the launch around 0630 after stopping for fuel and food and last minute bait. Launched the boat, go to turn the key...nothing. Some genius left the key on (probably me) and drained the cranking battery. No big deal, jumped it off with trolling battery and away we went. Took me a while to learn to drive the Allison again and not porpoise it.

Finally got to the canal we wanted to fish and found extremly clear water. Started throwing spinnerbaits, crankbaits and buzzbaits to find out what they wanted. Picou hooked onto a nice bass but lost it at the boat and I kept getting bites but they would just bite at the tail, needed a trailer hook, but didn't have one in the boat. Went about 1 1/2 hours without catching anything or even getting a bite.

Switched to a blue saphire speed craw and it was sure but slow. Wound up canal hopping picking up 15 all day but keeping one fish in the livewell that got put back. I lost what looked like a 5-7 pound bass under the boat and wound up calling it a day shortly after. Saw 3 bald eagles on the way to the launch about 20 feet above us 2 adults and a yearling.

Going back tomorrow taking Fowler and possibly Mandy and looking for catfish and/or sacalait in Verret. Sunrise was quite nice.

heard them eagle eggs make a good omlet. Should have had that yearling scoop that bass up for ya. Better yet, cut his claws off to make that trailer hook, big market for custom baits these days. I bet it looked like that movie Pauly Shore was in In the Army now.

all kidding aside, hoorah for your buddies fighting for our freedom, and you keeping us safe on the home front.
