CC, have you seen factory steel reeds break before?? im just curious ive seen carbon fiber ones break an split but not any factory ones...im just curious hadnt seen it before???

Quite a few lately, actually. Seems like in the past year, the number has jumped substantially. Don't know if it's the increase in the amount of junk running through the fuel, maybe the ethanol breaking down parts of fuel lines. Think about it, at 6000rpm, that reed is going up and down 100 times per SECOND. One little piece of grit, rubber, anything to keep it from closing flat can cause it to crack.
In the past 6 months, I have seen 8 or 10 broken STOCK reeds. Luckily, none have cause cylinder damage.

And just a side note to those that "never" run ethanol in their fuel. Do ya think there is a whole fleet of tankers just for gas with no ethanol or ya reckon they might use the same trucks for both?
jldc: There is nothing else to cause fuel to spew from the carbs, either a stuck float overflowing the fuel into the motor or a broken reed. With a stuck float, you can see the carb overflowing. The poor idle is cause by starving that cylinder for fuel, which will eventually cause more damage, no fuel=no oil=no lubrication=big repair bills.
