Some Buddy’s and I are making a Week long fishing trip to De Cade next week. I have fished the lake a few times but don’t know much about the area. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you are looking for trout it is too late in the year. Have to go further south. I've only ever fished there in the winter and we just drift the lake. that's all I know

you have to hunt the fish down there. hit all the good looking spots and some ugly ones too till you find them. around Lake Merchant, cutoff, Grand Pass et. see one of the old issues of La. Sportsman (around early'10) they had some of the 10 best places. try Sister Lake too.

Try the north and east side of Lake Mechant. Also heard a few good reports about Goose Bay which is off Mechant. As far as Sister Lake goes try the islands and chase the birds.

Maybe book a trip with Bill Lake or Marty Lacoste your first day there, he can show yall around Mechant and Sister Lake, then the rest of your week should be productive, just a suggestion. I'm sure if you got with either of those 2 via PM on here they could help you out also.

Thanks for the tips, Last time I fished De Cade with my dad and Son was back around Thanksgiving. We did pretty good on the trout but I can imagine De Cade on a windy day so wanted to see what was in the lakes shouth of there. I have a 22' Bay Stealth that handles pretty good but would prefer a few calmer choices if needed.

I been in sister lake and mechant with a 19' bay boat, the guide boats around there run 22's so you should be fine.....DeCade actually gets rough because its so shallow.

Default Lake DeCade

Decade usually only produces trout in the winter from ~Oct-Feb. From April on through summer there are a bunch of pleasure boats and boat riders on Decade. Try further south like Mechant and Sister Lake and the bayous and coves around them.

Skip decad skip mechant and goose lake. Just go south through cailiou lake and fish bayou mouths and points watch for birds and bait. If you see some pvc poles don't be scared to give em a few casts. Remember birds have numbers but reefs have size.
