My wife and I went to CR on our Honeymoon. Great time! She caught a huge 120 (ish) lb pacific sail, got sea sick (probably high volume of wine night before induced) so we came back in.

I'd love to move to CR. We stayed in town of Quepos, which is about an hour South of Los Suenos resort in Jaco Beach area. Quepos is part of the Manuel Antonio State Park. Lots of other activities. Zip lines through jungle, mangrove tours. They have an active volcano about an hour up the mountain that is supposed to be beautiful. We didn't have time to make it up there to see.

Easy flight out of Houston. Only about 2.5 hours. Flew into San Juan and then took puddle jumper over mountains to Quepos.
