600 Yard rifle match
At 600 yards the 10 ring is 6 inches in diameter. The match will have 3 relays with 20 shots in each relay so you shoot 60 times in the match. Put all 20 shots in the 10 ring and your score is a 200, 20 X10. Put 15 shots in the 10 ring and five shots in the 9 ring and your score will be a 195, 15x10+5x9=195, There will be guys shooting that have put all 20 shots into the 10 ring. Limited to .35 caliber or less, no muzzle brakes, no .338 magnums. E-mail me if you want more details. |

I know a guy that was big into going to those competitions. He has a Shilo Sharps and a Ballard rifle. Them things are heavy. I think they were both 45-110 with the flip up sites. He would shoot that thing at steel silhouettes and you could count to five and then you would hear "DING". Took that long for it to get down range. Think they are called buffalo guns.

The sling shooters get a larger target. Their 10 ring is 12". A shooter from Houston has cleaned the target before, 60 shots into a 12" circle using aperture sights.

I used to shoot high power competitions with a m14 from DCM. Went to camp perry Ohio 3 years for national matches. Didn't win anything big but I usually got my money back. It's a blast shooting open sights and long range.
