Big lake yesterday Saturday 6/16

Second time to go to big lake. Launched at Calc. Point Landing. No clue where to go, just wingin it. Went to the area of RABBIT island, Caught couple flounder, a few small reds, only one keeper. Those were along the bank near grass beds. Went to the side near the ship canal and saw some people wade fishing a reef, acroos from rabbit island, fished that reef and croakers a couple more small reds, and lost a nice trout at the boat. I used live shrimp, dead shrimp, gulp,topwater baits, sac a lait baits, buzz baits, I forgot crickets and worms, everything you can imagine. Ill figure this place out. Trying to fish somewhere besides vermillion bay. I like it. But it was windy and hard to stay put with trolling motor.
How do you find the reefs there? I have a chip for the bay that makes it so clear and simple. Anything like that for big lake?

I know the feeling. My family has a camp at cypm pt. So I have fished there for years. But over the past few years I have been fishing more BL than anywhere. I find a lot of my spots on dumb luck. I have found that a few select baits work really well there and if u don't catch on them... Move to a new area, reef, or pt. Always be looking for birds and bait in the wAter. There is a chip available from LAS (Louisiana Sportsman) which has most of the well known community spots on it that will download to your GPS. I believe they are hosted by Captain Paul if I recall correctly.

Forgot about this. It is a list of waypoints he sends you by email. Got a lot of the more popular reefs on it.

Yes indeed. Im looking for it now. THe chip for Verm bay was 500.00. But I think its worth every penny.

When I first started fishing big lake I fished with fifteen or more guides, not to learn their spots but to learn what genral areas to fish when and how to fish. Big lake is not hard it is predictable once you figure out th patterns based upon wind, tide and the season. Good luck.

If you have the extra cash to spend, multiple guides is the way to go.

I may need a tour guide more than a fishing guide. I just have no clue where Im going. And I hate to find reefs the hard way. I see people on reefs at the point all the time. I wiil take your advice on "multiple guides".
