Probably 75% of the trout I've caught have been on jerkbaits.
Jerkbaits, aka. stickbaits, can be dynamite lures for speckled trout....especially in shallow water like Big Lake. You gotta learn how and where to use them, tho. Casting and retreiving like a crankbait ain't gonna fool many fish. Sure, you'll stumble upon a few, but, you want to fish it shallow and cause as erratic an action as you possibly can....keeping in mind that a wounded baitfish always swims with it's head up. Throwing it during a not-so-aggressive topwater bite is one sure way to learn alot about a jerkbait. If you've got blowup after blowup without a hookup...throw a jerkbait in behind it and work it as you would a rubber bait...only faster. If you come up empty...you ain't fishin' it right.
