Calcutta; how many HP does the engine produce?
Me and my neighbor " raced" when I first got mine. I beat him to 70 mph but man I was shocked he was so close. |

I use to work on fords after I trained at uti on ford trucks back in 1990's.
Don't even know if new vehicles use sensor like old ones since I don't work on them anymore. Dirty mass air flow sensor use to be a culprit in all vehicles. One thing I heard from my mechanic friend is changing plugs in newer fords are not fun. Here link to explain mass air flow sensor. Got to be careful thin wires. http://www.fordf150.net/howto/clean-...low-sensor.php |

I cleaned my father's F150 and my F150 today here is how simple it is.
I believe Ecoboost have MAP not MAF. 1. buy cleaner made for MAF around $7.99 at major auto parts store Has directions on the bottle Don't break wires on MAF they are not cheap to replace typically screws take T-20 torque driver and should be the correct tool to take off the screws ![]() 2. This typically where your Mass air flow sensor is. this what looks like on 2009 F150 Un snap the electrical harness connected to it ![]() 3. This what some newer MAF look like. Spray stuff in there DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT TOUCH THE SMALL WIRES DO NOT TOUCH THE WIRES THEY ARE DELICATE AND YOU COULD BREAK THEM THEN YOU WILL HAVE TO BUY A NEW SENSOR Spray the stuff in the area where the wires are it will take off the dirt and clean up quickly DO NOT USE CLEANER THAT HAS OILY RESIDUE USE PRODUCT MADE FOR CLEANING MASS AIRFLOW SENSORS ![]() THIS IS WHAT THE HOLE WILL LOOK LIKE WHEN TAKE OUT THE MASS AIRFLOW SENSOR ![]() PRETTY SIMPLE NOW AND YOU SHOULD SEE BETTER ENGINE PERFORMANCE IN YOUR GAS MILEAGE!!!!! UTI was a good school back then and I did learn alot. Having these skills helped pay my college along with Army GI bill. Back in those days you could specialize in Ford or even get specific and go to school for just Ford trucks. I didn't know squat about vehicles and I came out knowing alot more than people my age at time who were so called backyard mechanics. What I hated was where I worked I knew newest techniques to fix new Fords and other guys my age who didn't have background screw stuff up. I would lose commissions taking time out of my day to fix their stuff. Worst part is they didn't keep up with buying right tools for job. Yeah, I did meet some good looking young ladies in my class back when I was single. They were like our buddies and we couldn't figure it out. They could drink us under the table and always get good looking women. One day one of my instructors told us that was because we didn't have the right tools! That was funny, but you would have had to been there. Last edited by jlsch1; 07-13-2012 at 09:41 PM. |

Weedeater I think yours has MAF.
Just please be careful easy to clean just don't break the wires. Some of older ones will have two wires where you can see them. I think its just 2012's have MAP which whole different can of worms. I got out of business after I graduated and hated changing timing belts on 4cyl Ford Rangers. 4 hour from hell job. Heck those engines went back to Ford Pinto's. Loved my friends that drove chevy's tell me how bad for inline 6's were. Those were heck of an engine. Last edited by jlsch1; 07-13-2012 at 09:59 PM. |

Had an 05 Ford with the 5.4 ,stock the milage was horrible. Changed the intake and air filter, exhaust ,and added an Edge Evolution programmer. After all this Best on hwy was 18 and avg 14 . Put a trailer on the hitch ,instant drop to 10 or less.
Got a 2010 now and stock gettin 18 on Hyw avg 15 around town. |

My 2009 and father's 2009 both get around 19 to 21 on hwy if in cruise overall avg 19.7 mpg.
Towing I do drop to around 16 avg which still good for full size trucks. My 2010 dodge with hemi I use for work gets the same. Ford Trucks never have been known for getting good gas mileage. Inline 6 was a strong engine, but worst gas mileage you could ever ask for. Biggest hangup I have with Ford is they chased all the good tech's away and left with alot of tech's with limited experience. I am glad I left before they lowered the rates they authorized for warranty work. At one time they had experience tech's that were loyal to dealers for years leaving in masses to go to private shops. Second biggest issue is on the F-150 engines I hate changing plugs due to thin head. I did a few of those for friends and got soak the plugs down overnight, use special tool, and still watch out not to strip the threads. You would have thought Ford would have fixed this. |
