Are they self contained, or are they wired to the boats battery?

I have had some on my last two boats including my current one, not enough light to bring in the fish. Looks cool, but that's it.

I actually have two extra ones somewhere at my camp, I will not out them on my next boat. My neighbor tried the same thing, I tried to tell him but he learned for himself.

Agree. I have one on my Frontier. Looks cool when running and IMHO, any extra light you can give your boat when running at dark is a plus. But not enough light to bring in fish.

I bought mine from MobyMarine.com - mine is a liquid lite

ETA - and to answer your question. Perfectly legal as long as you have your other USCG approved lights on. This light can NOT replace your rear running light or anchor light.

I spent $100 on a green LED drop light w/ 20' of cord last year. I have only used it twice, and it just may be the fish were there, but it was amazing. Dropping the light to the bottom, then having the fish on top is incredible. It is a tube light approximately 20" long, so I know it puts out more than these lights.
