Yep. Always wear your life jacket. File a float plan with your parents telling them where you plan on fishing. A flag sticking up would be a great idea to help boats see you from a distance, especially in rough water. Bring about 3x more water than you think you will need.

Take these guys up on going with them at least for your first few times. Bad things could happen by yourself especially if you don't have any experience and your not familiar with the lake.
