Blackwood on top. Rowland on right and Wallace on the bottom. Most of us do not recognize Bud Rowland as holding the current record. The fish was released after she was photographed. Two others fishing nearby witnessed the weight on a boga, and verified it to authorities. To this day I still can not believe it. Would you release the state record??? Jim Wallace still holds the record in my book. It came on a Glow Colored Corky...

I agree who lets a state record go....and why and how can it be certified by a witness??? I can catch a 9lb trout call it 12lb have 4 buddies say they saw the weight and let it go....
And then I could hold the la state record???? In my eyes that record don't count

That is Rowland and the 15 pounder caught down south in the Lower Laguna Madre. The other 2 were caught in Baffin Bay. Where's W?????He always has something to say about Texan's fish and the way they take pictures and they don't weigh what the posters say, etc. If y'all want to see some true gator trout then you need to buy Scott's book. Best compilation of bigguns ever put together. Ooops, I see Waltrip showed up. And I agree with W and some others that Wallace fish is still the record, not Rowlands ( even though I believe Rowland's weighed what he said it did)

I doubt I'd release a 15+ lb. trout even if it weren't a record.
This isn't any different than the dude that holds the world record (17 lbs. 7 oz.) It was caught on the east coast of Florida. He and his dad were fishing when he landed it. They both thought it was a snook. ![]() ![]() |

As a long time TX trophy trout fisherman, I must admit that over the years, I too had serious doubts about Rowland's TX Record. The tough part for me was that the state always required the fish to be brought in and weighed on a certified scale and witnessed as well. As you know this fish changed all that because it was released after being weighed on a personal IGFA certified scale and witnessed in the field by a couple of nearby fishermen. With all that said, after spending considerable time personally interviewing Bud Roland, I am convinced that his story and his fish are on the mark and factual. Rowland is in his 70's and he still fishes hard 3 days a week in the best big trout country the state has to offer, the Lower Laguna Madre. He documented a ton of giant trout that he has CPR'D and he holds several other IGFA Records including two other trout over 10 lbs on a flyrod. In my book, he is the real deal. Get his stories and more in my new book at www.topwaterpublishing.com. Thanks for your comments, Bentup
