Anyone trying to intentionally breed labs that will not adhere to the breed standard is not a good breeder.

So what you're saying is there are only 3 kinds of labs. Black, yellow, and chocolate. We already knew this.

Kind of what I was thinking. So there is a red but it's registered as a yellow....doesn't that make it a yellow?? I'm hoping I'm missing something here.

The red is just a yellow. People call them reds but they are yellow. Silvers are chocolates. Some yellows look red, some look yellow, some look white. But they are all yellow labs!

Dang now y'all got me thinking my red mini Dachshund is really a yellow lab. Wonder how he'll do in the duck blind. Think I'll just stick to the basic 3 colors. They've all done fine for me so far.

Back in pre school I learned my colors and I a can identify the difference between red and yellow and silver and black. To me the color they are registered as is irrelevant. I have a yellow lab now who's dad was Chocolate and mom was black. They had all three of the common colors (black, chocolate, and yellow) in her litter.

I'll repeat myself. The only colors recognized by major kennel clubs, are black, yellow and chocolate. I don't know what y'all are gettin at. I mean it's a fact, it's not my opinion. I knew salty was bad about opinions, but to take a fact and say its wrong is surprising. So and so has a silver lab that's registered, great, but it's registered as a chocolate. John Doe has a registered red lab, but it's registered as a yellow.

Well yes but obviously some people do not understand colors or say a red or silver is a yellow or black lab... I know you older but wiser men know your colors...

Yes, I have a new "Silver" Lab puppy. I got it from a reputable breeder who has been consitantly turning out silvers for 16 years now. For those of you who "think" you know that labs are bred with weimies to get this color, you need to do some more homework. They are still registered under the heading of chocolate, because the specifications state that colors can range from sedge to chocolate. Check with akc, they have done a good bit of research on these silvers. My puppies daddy was a Silver, and the mom was a factored silver chocolate. They had a litter of 8. 5 silvers and 3 chocolates. Soooo.... dont be hatin.lol The last pic is the baby daddy.

Specifically breeding for color is a huge disservice to the breed! Just like them short legged pig lookin labs at the dog shows!

This is also true. The black is the most superior color of the breed.
