Do three quarters of the LSU freshman really drop out or flunk out. My daughter is a good kids and not much of a party animal, but I have seen good kids go astray before.

LSU's four year graduation rate is between 25% and 30% most of the time since 2000. But this does not necessarily mean that 70-75% flunk out or drop out. The six year graduation rate is over 50%. A lot of students eventually graduate, but it takes them longer than expected. So if you're willing to pay six years of tuition, fees, and living expenses, your child has over a 50% chance of graduating.

I've seen a lot of good kids lead astray by partying and other distractions in college. These days, the internet delivers manifest distractions right to the dorm room. An LSU degree in a given field is an LSU degree in that field and is no less valuable if the student took two years of classes closer to home at reduced expenses, reduced temptation, and hopefully a bit more accountability regarding recreational activities. Most 20-21 year old juniors are more mature and better able to balance academics and other areas of live than the 18 year olds just waiting for their first chance to go nuts.

I went to mcneese and had a job offer before my last semester of school started. And had an internship in my field of study which was a great opportunity. It gave me experience in the work environment I planned on going to and made me realize I didn't care for that particular type of work

Same thing for me. The connections you make and the opportunities you get at mcneese are great. Nothing wrong with a smaller school. LSU is hype because of the environment of the school. Not to say its a bad school, but you can get a great education anywhere now.

I graduated from ull in nursing 5 yrs ago and when I was there they were in the top 10 in the country in nursing don't know if that's the case now. I can tell you this I wouldn't go to lsu for nursing. You have to take your prerequisites in br then you have to apply to their nursing school in new Orleans and finish up your last 2.5 years there. Best case scenario she'd finish in 5 yrs

Thanks Seapro. I just realized this by looking at the curriculum. My ex-wife and my daughters mother and I just spoke on the phone about this very issue. I think that makes it less attractive for sure.
