For you New Tohatsu 40/50hp owners a ?

My buddy has aquired a 2010 50hp Tohatsu and is putting it on a 16x42 Southfork vented tunnel. What props are y'all running and what would you suggest? It has factory tilt and trim and he's adding a hydraulic jackplate to it as well with a 4" setback. Thanks in advance.

I ran the 14 pitch yamaha prop on my mega on a tunnel. I had to slightly cup it

Shooting for someone running these new 50hp's to see what they are running, we were thinking a 15 pitch but I'm not familiar with the yamaha props on the tohatsus.

My mega had a 50 block, intake and exhaust, plus it was ported. It made over 50 horse. I was running a cupped 14, a stock 50 will probably not turn a 15 where you want it to be turning at

I gotcha, didn't know how the new motors compared to the older ones power/torque wise.

Empty it will fly with a 15 but any load at all bogs mine down. I would try 13 and 14p yamaha. I ran the 14p yamaha on mine with a shrimping load( 2 cast nets 3 batteries, icechest, trolling motor, 6 gal of fuel 2 shrimp baskets and it ran pretty good. Lake Chuck Duck was with me he can vouch. Prolly doing upper 30's

This boat will mainly be used for duck hunting btw.

I asked the mechanic at lake area and he said these motors were designed to run a 13p. If your running the marsh the 13 will probably give you a great hole shot

Ran a Nissan 40 on my current 18x42 and Toups made me an 11 p with lotta cup. He can try it out if needed or add some pitch.

PowerTech builds a tunnel boat prop for that motor with the cup poured into the mold, no beating and bending. I would say a 12 with heavy cup, that should bring the average pitch up close to 14 or so and allow you to raise the engine for maximum height. You need to understand how pitch numbers are attained. The prop is measured from leading edge to trailing edge about every inch apart from the hub to the tips of the prop. Take all those pitch readings, add them up, then average them. When you start adding cup, you raise the average pitch very quickly.
An old racing trick. If you want to boggle peoples minds, erase the 12 from the prop and stencil 18 on it. That should make them go hmmmmmmm Why do you think all racers keep their props covered till the boat is in the water, no photos, no sharp minds to copy your prop???? You don't get to be US1 two years in a row by giving away all your secrets
Another word of advice when buying a used prop,,,, no-one sells their "A" prop. Run it before you pay.

I run a 16 42 southfork tunnel with a 40 merc with a few mods. I have the power tech prop that is made for tunnels, I have The 4 blade one I think its an SWC4 but not positive they also make it in 3 blade. This prop is no speed demon but it kicks a** in the marsh especially with a lot of weight in the boat. I had to go from a 14 pitch 3 blade to a 12 on this prop as blades are very large. During gator season this year it really impressed me as I put about 8-9 gators in the boat and it still jumped up on plane and only lost about 2 mph top end

You definitely have the right prop for what you do. Must be a stump puller
