Default Slaying the trout

While at Venice marina yesterday I was approached by a guy that asked me where I got the plastic bait I had on my line. He said that was his. I did not know what to say. I know I did not steal it and if he insisted it was his I would give it to him. I was baffled.

It was nothing but a standard bait identical to the purple one in the picture above and I had found it in the parking lot last week. I liked the softness and flexability of it so I was going to try it. Heck if you want it bad enough it is yours. He explained to me that he is the one that developed that configuration and when I looked at it sure enough it was a "SLAYER INC" bait. They are made in Florida and after a wonderfull conversation with Chris he gave me some to try.

Mr Walter and I went to the very secret spot in the river and proceeded to put some very nice trout in the box. We left the dock at 10:00 due to heavy rains and had to be in around noon to pick up a couple of guys.

Mr Walter with his signature smoke in mouth was the first to hook up and had 3 in the box before I got my first bite and fish. I had to add 3/4 ounces of weight in order to present the bait right. We were fishing in 15 feet of water that dropped off quickly.

Now the bounty was getting better and we were slaying the trout on almost every cast.

A boat near us had a K-9 assist that was interesting. This lab kept pigking up the trout and carrying it around the boat. The owner was constantly telling the dog to put it down which it would untill it decided to pick up another trophy. When the dog would put the fish down it was always on the deck inside of the boat.

We got a call from our guys and told them to hang at the dock for a few minutes we only had 5 fish for our limit. They were biting so fast we dropped them in a bucket and on the deck so we would not have to waste time running to the box with every fish.

We headed in with our limit at 11:30 to have lunch and pick them up. Full box 50 trout. We only got 4 shorts and no white trout durring that time.

The second trip had a change in the bite and the size of fish. This took a bit longer and there were several short throw backs. We also picked up 4 white trout of very good size. The wind picked up and a large storm was heading our way as we reached the limit and we did not waste any time heading to a massive fish cleaning party.

The above is the second half of the day. Total for the day was 100 specks and 4 whites which cleaned looked like a basket of carcases and 5 gallons of trout fillets. We Slayed the trout with Slayer baits today. All plastic! No shrimp!

We fried up 3/4 of a gallon tonight and invited some guys at a camp next door to Mr Walters over to join us.

At the dock was the guys I am scheduled to go with tomorrow weather permitting. They also did well today with blackfin and amberjacks. It was rough and wet offshore today.

Life is Good!

Fishing is not a matter of life or death. It's more important than that.
