Default Hole in Lake Charles

All-

I have a question that has my dad and I stymied. We've seen the big hole on the south end of Lake Charles on topo maps and on the depth finder.

The question is: why is the hole there and what keeps it from being filled in?

Thanks!

It has filled in some. The lake bottom around the hole is fairly hard, as in not much silt.

There is actually three deep holes in Lake Charles. The reason they don't fill I have no idea. Being that they are between 45 and 50 foot deep might be a reason.

Are you counting the turn-around as one of them?

East side.....South side......and ???? Out in the middle is a hole ~ 20' deep.

I have never seen more that ~ 25' depth out in the middle. Guess I will have to look around sometime to find deeper water.

If memory is correct....... the middle "deep trench" runs north-south and is 300 to 500 feet [maybe a little wider] and fairly long....1/4+ mile.

NO......I usually fish some kind of soft plastic and fish it fairly shallow. When that does not work, I'll let it fall deeper but don't ever remember catching a fish down deep.

I have fished the edge of the deep hole the one Ray is talking about which is 50 foot deep in places and the other hole to the west in of the lake which is about the same depth and have done real good. The days were cold and water temp was cold. I don't count the turn around as a hole. There are also two holes in Prien like LC. This one of the times in 2011 we went to kill some time and run the boat. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1356705821.926605.jpg
