Reds in Cold Weather

Is it worth fishing reds in cold weather. Was thinking about making a trip on Saturday. Do they still bite? Do you fish them any different than in the summer?

Redfish love cold water....they school up tighter when it gets colder sometimes they are harder to find but when you do they will be plenty. Since we didn't have much of a winter the water never really got that cold though. Water temps have been anywhere from 58 to mid 60's.

Reds still have to eat, they will be in deeper water until the sun gets up good and start warming the flats and water. In the winter time i usually dont get on the water till about 8. I give the sun time to get up and warm things up. Its also easier to see the fish when the sun is at a higher angle. Weather is gonna be beautiful this weekend

Fish the bayous and marsh washout early.... Grass beds on the deeper ponds later.

Also remeber dirty water tends to be a few degrees warmer than clear water. Somehting about the dirt particles reflecting more of the sunlight warming it up more. So dont pass up a stained water without giving it a shot mid day, that water may be warmer

That was my biggest red on fly ever, so had to get the fly rod in the pic... That was the best way lol

Learn to fish cold water/weather on 2/16/13.
Bunch of us here will be out there taking on Mother Nature.
We will probably be the only ones on the lake, but the SC bunch ain't skeert of a lil cold weather.
