Use wood and epoxy resin, not polyester or vinlylester resin. The epoxy resin is stronger and sticks better. Be sure and coat the underside of all the wood with epoxy resin to seal it up and prevent it from rotting. Use 12 oz biaxial fiberglass to top the decks. Make up a putty of resin and wood flour to make filets where you connct and then use 6" fiberglass tape to overlay the connection. Since epoxy breaks down in the sunlight be sure to paint it.

Dont cut your matt staight try to tear it so that the ends are frayed and it blends in better. My neighbor does body work on old cars with fiberglass fenders and what not and showed me that trick. Also invest in few tyvex suits and a good respirator.
