I prefer to use an appropriately weighted carolina rig (usually about 1/4 oz) with a 3 ft 30lb test mono leader. Then I use a non-weighted clip-on cork to attach just above the egg weight.

This way I can switch from top to bottom quickly. Also, I will clip on a weighted cork to cast more easily into the wind or to assist customers that cannot cast as well as others.

I'll use different colored corks to help people identify "their" rod.
