looks like a pretty nice rig, maybe underpowered
Yeah you are right on the underpowered aspect. I believe that this is a marketing concept the mfg's and dealers are using to try and sell motor upgrades and increase margins. Every since the motor companies started buying the boat mfg's and packaging their units I have seen this happening. There is noway any 21-22 ft bayboat should have a 150 hanging on the back 2 or 4 stroke, it is the same as a full size truck with a v6.

You would be surprised that a lot of 21-22ft boats do fine with 150s on them. Sometimes upgrading to a 200 only gets you a few mph faster and depending on the setup will burn a lot more gas. On most of the lighter hull boats a 150 is perfect unless your into the whole speed thing. Just an example I used to have a 22ft pathfinder and it ran real good with a 150 V-MAX upgraded to a 200 V-MAX and it did gain speed but my gas mileage went to way down. But with the heavier 21-22 footers yes they need at least 200s.

The next logical step from a 150 would be a 225, not enough difference between 150/200. I don't see the need for mfg's to even make the 200 but there again they are trying to satisfy the boat mfg's. As with trucks, it is not the speed issue that I am concerned with it is the bottom end torque and RPM's needed to develop that torque.
