I was thinking the same thing, but the 21 ft. Haynie is only 1400 lbs., however, the hull area has more drag than a smaller boat. But if you get most of the boat out of the water, again, that is a different story.
If I were going to spend that much money, I would ask the dealer to let me test ride one. If they are a good dealer, that shouldn't be a problem. The you can see where to go from there. When I bought my boat, some of the cheaper ones had the 115 HP motor on them. The dealer said it was under powered, but he sold more of them cause of the price difference. I am glad I got the higher HP motor. I am not a speed freak, but I wanted a comfortable boat and it is comfortable and a good ride for it's size. |

My concern is more of the motor.....Sorry but I would not buy a new boat unless it had a 4 stroke or a DI motor......More than likely, that is the main reason the boat is priced at that price. On the issue of the 150 with a 21-22' boat....I have a 22' Express X bay boat hyperlift hull with a 150 4 stroke on it. The max rate for it is 200HP if you put on sea star hydraulic steering. I had convservations with someone who has the same boat but with the 200 HPDI and from talking with him he gets 4-6mph more than I get with my 150 four stroke based on the same load.....Suprising, the test Yamaha did with this boat with both motors are pretty accurate to what we are running. Again, nothing wrong with going with max horse power but at times you may not need it unless you want a little more speed. I chose to go with a little less HP due to gettting a 4 stroke over the DI motor...BTW, the dry weight of my boat is 1,700# and I can get 47-50 max with a full load.

Missed the other post saying it would be upgraded to an Optimax.....Even with a 150 OptimaxI would get it for 28K....However, I would still price it compared to one with a 4 stroke or bigger Opti.

The way I had heard these things talked about here, I thought they'd cost a heckuva lot more... How are they compared to say...SCB's, Boston Whalers or Bay Stealths?
