Question Moving to Lafayette

I just accepted a job at Lafayette General and will be moving there around the the middle to end of July. Anyone able to point me in the right direction as far as places to live ( looking to rent at first), things to do, or just any things I should know about the place. Thanks

Anything to the NE of University Ave or the NW of Congress is where you dont want to live. Finding a place to rent would be easier in Lafayette than the the Youngsville /Broussard area probably. But if I were going to buy a house it would be on the SE side of town as it is the nicest area and growing the quickest

Definitely youngsville or broussard area if buying. If renting find something close to lafayette general to avoid traffic. Traffic sucks in lafayette no matter what time.

I love my area between south Lafayette and Maurice. Not a bad drive to Lafayette General either. I work there also. What type of job did you accept?

True story too! Apartment is a bad bet when you can get more space and a yard, plus make your money back and not have to worry about someone else burning your place down for pretty much the same price...

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate all the suggestions. Keep them coming! Sadly I can't afford to buy yet as I just graduated from nursing school.

Likeuhboss and Salty- I'll be working on 4th floor (ortho) as an RN on nights.

Gerald- most likely an apartment or a small house. One or two bedroom is all I need.

Thanks again everyone!

The landing apartments are the best bang for your buck in S Laf.

I moved to Lafayette from lake Charles and moved in chateau mirage apartments off rue du belier. They were brand new and probably the nicest in Lafayette but 1k a month for rent ****ing sucks. I would move in an apartment and sign a 6 month lease and grab a realtor once you get settled in and start looking at houses in Broussard and youngsville. Those areas are growing very fast and if you buy a new or newer home you will break even or make money on it. As far as apartments, either live with the slums or pay at least 850 a month. Ansley walk, audibon lakes (sp?), chatuea mirage, chatuea de lions, Lafayette gardens are all pretty nice and safe places. Your best bet for renting is a rent house with a few other people

I lived there for 6 months...nice apartment 1 bedroom was around 600. Like said already pay more or live with people you don't care to be around.

Stay away from Broussard and youngesville area. Traffic is absolutely horrible.
