Update on the guy: I found his name in the arrest column this morning and looked him up online. He has been convicted of carnal knowledge of a juvenile in 1997, as well as aggravated sexual assault in 2000 where he was released in 2007. I can't find what he's wanted for this time, but there seems to be a pattern...... I can't beleive this lady let this POS around her kids AND brings his a$$ to a freaking children's hospital. They should lock her up too!
Most of the time, a hospital would be LUCKY to get 0.40 on the dollar

Yep my clients see more like 0.25, his clients probably have a lower gross charge than the ones I am seeing. Cost reporting, that is fun stuff.

Regarding a hospital it is all about payer mix. If a hospital has a high amount of caid and care patients they are in trouble. A high amount of managed care patients can actually result in them making money.

Hospitals in larger cities now require deductibles and co insurance amounts to be paid prior to surgery, that helps.

I can't say who it is but there is a very large doctor group in south Louisiana that use to be my client. They are ran by CPA's not doctors and they run a great practice and make a ton of money. Of course the difference there is they do not have ER exposure since they are not a hospital. Doctor groups can do very well if they manage their cash and payer mix.

I don't blame these hospitals for wanting their cut up front. They can't take anything away from you like the utility, mortgage or, finance company can if you fail to pay.

I have a $3800 deductible and, had to pay it all, up front this year before they would do surgery on my wife. The gal acted like she hated to have to tell me that (I'm sure she catches a lot of flack for having to tell people this) but, I didn't flinch and, told her that I understood why.

Emergency Rooms are for Emergencies!! Not for when lil wayne has an earache and a runny nose and baby mama don't want to pay for an office visit, so she hauls him down to the ER. Then as he and his 6 siblings, each a different daddy, goes beserk around the people in there that are really there for an emergency! Makes me sick!!
