I had a 1985 Yamaha 40 that was used hard in fresh(Atchafalaya Basin) and salt(Verm Bay, Rockefeller, Cocodrie) with no major problems. Bought a new(used) boat and gave the boat, motor, and trailer to my son-in-law who still uses it to this day Almost 30 years old and still cranks on the first turn of the key. Bullet proof!
