It's very hard to get them to bite when they are in the tiny shad/pogie mode.
Even with live shad it's not a sure thing.
I'm going to try the nose hook drop shot or Carolina rig trick next time.
Maybe with the kayak, you could sneak up on them and catch em in the landing net when they jump. HaHa!

When they are like that they are reluctant to give up their position. They are primarily a ambush predator they just sit in mud and wait till the school of bait passes by and they explode up then bury right back in same spot. So you should be able to get right on top of them. I've done it in a 24' boat. So I'm sure you can get real close in a yak

A drop shot with about 5-6" from weight to hook would prolly crush. I bet one of those tiny mirodines would be a flounder machine and here is one more trick. Wacky Worm smashes flounder.

Encounter this quite often with flounder... All great tips given and here is another little jewel. Small white red dot beetle spin will get smashed in this situation most of the time. So bring them ultralights crappie rods with you when you go. Tons of fun also!!!

Flounder seem to love the tails of gulp! I loose 2 tails for every 1 flounder i catch. Anyone else have that problem? Seems a trailer hook would fix that up.

I've put a trailer hook on my gulp when I was missing a bunch of short striking trout under some birds and it increased my catch. Trout didnt seem to mind that extra hook.
