I realize coastal projects are extremely expensive, but I still feel you can contribute on small levels
I have an idea but would have to kill you and I don't know you so don't want to kill you - it involves invasive species,

but

I think that something could be done with water hyacinth and salvinia and used as dredge fill or using some sort of waste product (think yard clippings and leaves) as dredge fill and its organic
