Matt, if you don't have the money in the bank to replace that vehicle tomorrow, don't drop your full coverage. Here's what I tell customers...If you can't write a check for what it takes to replace your vehicle and, not flinch when you write it, don't drop full coverage. If it's a 1988 Toyota Corolla, I'd go minimum on it but, if it's a 2005 or up pickup, it's worth a good bit of money and will cost that money to replace it.

Thanks for the advice. It's an '08 Silverado and I would damn sure flinch if I had to write a check for another one!

Default I'm in

the insurance business although not P&C, and I know you can't really afford to insure everything you have for every kind of calamity that may happen out there. I've dropped my collision as both of my vehicles are paid for, and I don't plan on being in the wrong if I have an accident, lol.... As a Christian, there is a point where I just have to trust that the Lord is in control and will take care of me should something happen.

I appreciate your faith and, confidence! While I have the faith, I also have the insurance. Too many bad drivers over here where I'm at. Too many uninsured drivers also!

As a Christian myself, I believe Murphy's law is just as real as the creator, and is just as omnipresent. I trust The Lord to bless me with enough money to continue carrying the coverage needed to get me out of a bind when Murphy shows up.

Right, 40% of Louisiana drivers have min limits or no limits. There are ways to combat this fact without going into insurance debt.

You may not plan to be in the wrong...but you can still end up in the wrong. I had a truck pull a U-turn from the right lane on me while I was in the left lane...I was in the wrong because I hit the rear end of his truck, I only had liability and it sucked. I plan on always having full coverage. I'm also in the collision business and a deductible would still be cheaper than having to pay out of pocket to make repairs on most damage. I would get paid properly to repair my vehicle and be able to actually come out ahead if something came up...hypothetically speaking.
