![]() I am interested in refurbishing the tractor shown in the pictures below. I believe it is a 1970 model Farmall 140. It was originally bought by my grandpaw who has passed away and it is still used by my father and me to cut 6 acres of grass. As you can see it is need of a new deck. The tractor runs great but has a few problems that I would like a professional to fix the right way. We have looked at new tractors and for $20k you can't buy a tractor made as well as this one is. We have decided to put some money into this tractor instead of buying a new one. Any help or suggestions are appreciated. |

I couldn't afford him.
Plus I wouldn't let his dumbass son touch my tractor with a 10' pole! |

I have one just like it, its a 60's model with a metal seat. Get off and push reverse gear and 3 forward. Top speed 8mph. Have all original plows, discs, etc. PTO is engaged anytime tractor is running. If you need to hook something up to the PTO, you have to kill tractor first..lol... To answer your "?", There is a guy that came out to look at and change a few minor things and kinda showed me around the tractor. Said guy passed away recently. Im sure there are alot of DIY you-tube videos or forums that you can look at to find what you need....... What exactly are you trying to do with it ??

Would your shop be able to put a paint job on it?
I am guessing all of the parts would have to be sand blasted first? Also, do you think it would have to be completely disassembled to be repainted? A new paint job would be about all of the cosmetics I am wanting to do to it. |

All BS aside, it could get pretty costly due to the number of hours that would have to be put into it...Not "Rick's Restorations" expensive but, costly. |

New deck (most important).
It won't shift into reverse so gears need fixing. Pretty bad oil leak that we can't seem to find. Generator (yes generator not alternator) has to be rebuilt about every 3 months bc it stops charging. I think this is because oil is getting into it from oil leak. New seat. Has a few bent parts (from me hitting things over the years) that I would like straightened out. Other things I can't think of off of the top of my head. Basically, I want someone to go through it and fix what is broke. It is small stuff but too big of a job for my Dad and me who aren't so great with engines. |

But still compare that to spending $20k or more on a new tractor that isn't made as well and it seems like it would be worth it. Thanks for the information. |
