Salt water barrier

I know I'm asking a lot of questions but I've gotten hooked on saltwater fishing. Is there any advice for fishing the barrier area?

Try fishing along the dropoffs. Water up near the bank usually is fairly shallow and out 50 to 100 feet it drops off to 8 to 15 feet deep.

Water temp. was 89 to 90 F a week ago in the Prien / Saltwater barrier areas. In a few weeks, the water should start to cool off some and the fish will start move into the shallower water.

Soft plastic baits fished on a 1/4 oz jig head or live bait should catch a few Redfish or flounder and maybe a speck or 2.

Some areas have old stumps under water along the banks, so you can expect to get hung-up sometimes.

I,ve done well there this time of the year on a falling tide. I usually get on either side of the barrier and cast in the moving water and let the moving water carry your bait. Caught on dead shrimp, gulp shrimp, and spinner baits. Caught limits of stripers and reds certain times of year.

I agree with TGSX750. Use a hook and a rod, but I would put a bait on the end of it.

fished it a couple days ago, caught bass and trout at same spot near the spillway at barrier. It was only good when the water was moving over the spillway. We used live bait and the smaller the better, had a couple of large live shrimp and would not get touched. lots of floating hydrilla though to fight with. Once we ran out of live bait they did not want to touch the artificial. Like someone mentioned earlier, it is very shallow around the spillway in certain areas and lots of stuff in the water so use caution. Good Luck. The workers do not get there til 7 to open the spillway and the barrier. Fished from about 730 to 9 and called it a day.

You must use them magic rod and hook combos without any reel or string. Lol
