I use 30lb power pro no backing on spinning rods no problem. Put it on with good tension and adjust the drag when fighting a big fish as needed. Often when someone gets on a real big fish I'll follow with the trolling motor to keep as much line on there reel as I can. A few times I've even had to crank the big motor with Jacks and Sharks.
