DB I've used soap and water on wasp several times. I have tons of wasp in my shed and my barn so I'll go through a few cans in a day. My grandma showed me the soap and water trick and it works better than the Green Thumb crap they sell at True Value. You have to hit them at night when they're all at the nest.
Does it work immediately? They fall right then?

I don't want em to have 5 seconds to come after me

Dropped everytime I've tried it and I'm highly allergic to the suckers so I want them dead ASAP. I would pick up some cans at the True Value by my house because their brand is always on sale, but they would just fly away after I would drench them. I started buying the more expenseive brand and using soap and water when I run out and it's like magic.

I think its just the water and soap. I just hot water because the soap seems to mix in a little better than cold. I could see boiling water killing plants

Drops em straight to the ground. Just make sure that you get good contact with the nest...Not a little left or right of them...They get mad when you don't make good contact with them!

Soapy water works wonders on the wasp nests. A big gulp cup full works good. Especially if the nest is in a shrub or plant, the wasp sprays will make a dead spot in your shrub. Soap will just about kill any insect that breathes through its abdomen. Suffocation.
