For a deer hunting rifle, I have been shooting a Rem. model 700 in .243 cal. for many many years and killed many deer with it. Most of the deer dropped dead shooting 100 gr. Cork-loc bullets.

But for a youth rifle, I think a 7m-08 might be a better choice because for this caliber you can buy a managed recoil load to start off the boys shooting the rifle.

For a scope, I replaced my scope a few years ago and still have the old Bushnell scope sitting in a drawer. It is a 3 x 9 x 40 power scope. I used it for 20 years and never had a problem with it, I just thought I would get an upgraded scope. You can have it if you want it.

I have a Stevens model 200 in 7mm-08 I bought as a backup for the same caliber Browning. Several bears and black-tail deer here will attest to the potency of that caliber. It has very little recoil and still packs a good amount of energy out to 300 yards. Zero for 200 yards and at four hundred it is only 8 inches low.
