Mine was with a guide who took us to the Cameron jetties, we stayed in one spot the whole trip and caught trout on live shrimp. I wasn't paying for the trip so I couldn't complain too much. The other guys in our boat didn't fish much so they were just happy to catch fish. The guy who paid for the trip fished topwater in West Cove with another guide from the same service. That would have been more fun to me. We caught more fish than they did but I was pretty bored.

My best trip with a guide was out of Fourchon, He didn't even touch his rod. He found a place and anchored and we were steadily catching fish. His grandson was the deck hand and the kid netted most every fish and took them off so our hands did not even get slimy. Then the guide said reel in this is too slow! He took us to another spot where the action was faster and the fish were bigger. The kid couldn't keep up and I wanted to feel a little slime anyway. This guide was a perfect host, he tried to ensure that everyone caught fish and had a good time. I suppose that is what most guides try to do. I see lots of guides who seem like they are the primary fisherman on the boat, they catch most of the fish and the sport has to net the guides fish if it is big. If the sport hooks a big fish the guide will come and net the fish other wise the sport is on his own.
Not tryng to high-jack your thread just giving the sports a chance to respond.
I'll be dipped if I have to net a guide's fish, unless it's someone I know.

I've only been on a couple guided trips, never once did the guide fish. If I'm dropping $500-1000 for my customers go on a fishing trip, and dropping $150-300 for a tip, dude better be at work with a smile on his face.

I did go on one where the guide kept running up on reefs and his POS Etech broke down, didn't catch a fish. I had to get out and help him push a couple times. You know what I didn't do? Pay his a$$

We compete now (not fishing obviously), so I get it back by stealing his customers.
