Default Winter Outboard Motor Question

I have an outboard that I will not run much this winter... but I will start it up and let it run for a while. My question is, would i run all of the fuel out of the carbs or keep the carbs filled up over the winter? I have heard mixed reviews and wanted to know what you do for limited use of your outboard over the winter.

I've heard it's always best to run the gas out. But I'm no mechanic either.

It's best to run it out, but make sure you have conditioner/stabilizer in the fuel first and run it for a bit to ensure it's made it's way into the carb (or all through the system if no carb). If you have a carb motor you can spray some corrosion preventative (lube) that is safe for your motor into the carb intake and let this spit and sputter/kill the motor. It will coat and prevent corrosion.

You can also pull the plugs and squirt some in the cylinders, then rotate the crank so they get coated.

We've done it on old car engines using marvels mystery oil, and have heard the same process for outboards though I haven't done it on one yet.

Best to check the owners manual or with the manufacturer for their recommendations.

The quickest, easiest way is usually not the way to go.
