Default Matagorda Bay

Anyone ever fish down in either of the Matagorda bays? Going to be visiting inlaws in Bay city and want to kill some time and catch some fish. Never been down there so I have no clue where to launch my kayak or anything. Im scouring the texas sites for info but its limited. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Been there a few times. Fishing on the river at night under the lights can be pretty awesome this time of year. I have never caught any trout in the bay; however, the redfish action is real solid. Water is usually pretty muddy. A lot of the guides fish with cut mullet for redfish. There are great places for your kayak. unfortunately, I don't know the area well enough to tell you where to put in.

if you're in a yak, you'll be better off driving to Chickqueapin(sp?)and launching there. you'll be able to reach the lake, bayou and east bay. look on google earth.

Google the matagorda harbor. That is where we always put in. It is right in town and has marina, boat ramp, beer, bait, and a grill. It is really nice and if you need info that is a place to start.

Like said before, google then follow the highway down towards the beach, there are a couple of cuts on the left, Rudacell is one of them, if you see no parking signs, park across the road. Can also paddle across the Colorado into West Bay, but have a good gps you trust or go with some that knows, lots of twist and turns.
