Depth Finder Issues
1). When I'm running my depth will go blank for no reason. It happens randomly in shallow water, or when running a deep channel in 30-40', clean water or dirty 2) my trolling motor mounted transducer gets pretty out of whack on my bow unit when comparing to the reading at the helm. The difference can be 4-5' so I know it's not just the depth difference between the transducers. Main unit at the helm is accurate, bow is way off when I do a quick dip with my pole. It's not constant either, it will just fluctuate. Have an HDS10 at the controls, HDS7 on the bow. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I get that sometimes with bad connections
check for corroded wires or loose conections |

Problem #1 is where? Helm r bow.
seems like you May have a short somewhere r transducer going bad.. Make sure connection r tight in the back of the unit and inspect the transducer in the back. problem# 2 Both units can't be on at the same time one has to be off. That's what is causing the bad signal at the bow. The chirp signals are running into each other, Clashing (Kinda like Two people screaming at the same time a few feet apart...... can't understand sh*t.) ie the wacked out reading at the bow. gadget freak Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk Last edited by alphaman; 01-31-2014 at 01:38 AM. |

Let me correct myself. Both units can be on via networking but only 1 transducer can be on at a time. If you the bow, turn helm transducer off. And that image will be displayed on both units And vice versa.

You can also get interference when you're close to another boat and their transducer is on. The pings hit each other on the way down Causing a return interface

Thanks Lawrence, I'll have to try some things out. This explains my bow issue, but the helm looks like it lies in the transducer or wiring.
For the bow, I saw on BBC a guy had nth units on the same transducer, with a switch at the helm. He would switch the signal to his helm unit for driving, then switch to the now when he was on the TM. This would solve my frustrations with that chord zip tied to the TM shaft too, it really limits the depth adjustment Gets a little hairy when your running and the read out shows the same thing it's supposed to when you run out of water. If it only happens at the helm when running then it is your transducer adjusted wrong or in the wrong spot. It is on the edge of your cavitation pocket or not making contact with smooth water at all times

Goooh, your problem is with the HDS 10, why don't you let me try and fix it for the summer in my boat? lol...
You may be able to try and set one on 83 hz, and the other on 200hz. that may work out but not sure. I'm not ballin enough to have 2 HDSs onboard my boat yet. one thing to watch in the helm unit is to make sure the twist lock on the connector is locked. i was experiencing the same thing and found out i wasnt twisting till it locked. as i would run it would start to back out and cause the same issue. |
