I had a food saver, it worked good for about a year. If you are doing a bunch of stuff at one time it wont keep up. I got a cabelas professional. Very happy with it, it will also take up to a 15" bag.

Food saver worked good for a couple years ang quit sealing but they will warrant it. It will not keep up packaging a lot of deer or fish, you have to wait for it to cool. I upgraded to a larger commercial Weston Pro-2300 and have been very happy. Costs a lot more but no waiting. I can't tell that it packages any tighter than the food saver but definitely built to last.

I've got the game saver and I like it but haven't used it in a while because I can't catch enough fish to warrant freezing. Lmao

Check out Amazon.com for plastic rolls. Much cheaper than say, Walmart and seal just fine.

100% agree with Cabelas commercial sealer. I've burnt up 2 Foodsavers, 1 Black and Decker before getting the Cabelas. No comparison on quality. Been using Cabelas for 3 years now and still love it. Do lots of sausage, fish and groundmeat and no overheating at all. Key is buying bags offline in bulk. Get 100 precut commercial bags offline for same price as 15 bags at wal mart, and I like them better. Absolutely hate using the roll bags.

We have the 15" FoodSaver/Gamesaver sitting on the counter at home that was given to us as a gift. It hasn't gotten much use, because we clean and bag most of our fish at camps or fish cleaning stations and we don't drag it around with us. We've used it for a few freshwater fish I cleaned at home. It is OK, but nowhere near as nice as the professional pressure sealers we used in the fish cleaning house up in Seward, AK.
Other than the space/weight saving, I don't see any quality advantages over quart zip lock bags. We've used zip lock freezer bags for many years, and fish keeps just fine in a chest deep freeze for a year or more without any quality issues. We simply put the fillets/chunks in a freezer bag, fill with water, drain most of the water out while preventing bubbles or air from flowing back into the bag, and freeze. I expect we'll probably keep using the pressure sealer for fish/game that gets processed at home at least until we run out of bags (and hot seal rolls) or until it gives out, but I doubt we'll bring it with us on the road or replace it when it fails. I'm sure my wife will do a cost compare between the hot seal rolls and zip lock bags before buying any more. |

I buy many different sizes for deer, ribs, whole redfish filets on halfshell, etc.. Mainly use for sausage. Use about 500 bags a year and no problems. Found some bags cheaper through Amazon but been happy with what I've been getting. Sent from my XT1058 using Tapatalk |
