what are you asking about? the gel coat? I assume you mean the gel coat but it could also be referring to the non skid surfacing? the carpet? the colored paint splatter?
not really sure what type of "surfacing" you need and are asking about so can you clarify what you are looking to get done? if its not worn through to the fiberglass then you can just repaint it |

Any type really. Just would like a decent looking finish at a decent price.

hydro turf is a nonslip surface with a little cushion to it. It might be out of your budget though.

its easy and you have like 30 colors to pick from they mix for you right there on the spot. I did my 17ft flatboat with it and it took 2 1/2 gallons so for your boat you might need 2 of the 2 gallon kits. it has a non skid finish that's rough like concrete and you just paint it on with a brush in tight spots or use a roller (included in the kit) for larger areas. it wont stick to bare metal so on metal it needs a primer coat to stick but on fiberglass just pressure wash it clean so no mildew or anything is left and sand it good before painting so it sticks well. this is how my boat turned out: http://www.saltycajun.com/forum/album.php?albumid=601 I will caution that if you decide to use it, I was very careful but the roller still slung specks all over so even going slow it will get on everything near it that you don't cover up |

Keakar,
How's that stuff holding up? I bought a used flat that I want to repaint inside and out and would like something like that for the decks and floor area... |

There's a few guys that have been running Best Step from Sears in their rigs and says it's identical to Hydroturf for a fraction of the price. The only downside is it's only available in black. Academy also has a product in the fitness section that looks identical also. I believe it's BCG brand. They can all be applied with 3M spray adhesive. |

its great but I can see where im gonna hafta be a little carefull for the first month since it starts out kinda rubbery and is slowly getting harder as the sun is baking it on very similar to the way those spray on bed liners are. I just did it last week and the tips were still flexible for the first two days so im not gonna be dragging ice chests around just yet until it gets baked on good. right now its like ceiling texture and real pointy so bare foot is kinda poky and if you slid on this stuff you'd have serious road rash from it lol the coating itself ended up about 1/8" to 3/16" thick not counting the points which I assume will break off during normal use of dragging stuff across the floor. if I needed to do it again I would buy this stuff to do it. I will suggest getting a very light shade color so its not hot in the summer, I went with grey wash which is like cigarette ash grey (almost white) its goopy and goes on kinda like mayonnaise, use a brush for vertical surfaces and you can go over it with a roller for a better texture match after you apply it if there is room to do that |

The Best Step is $25 buck a sheet and the BCG is $20 I believe.

Kiwigrip has some good reviews. You put it on with a roller and control the height by varying how much you put on.

Comments about KiwiGrip Non-Skid Deck Coating: I like the non skid properties. Better than those that contain sand or silica. Major problem is it stains really easily and is a bear to clean. Even with aggressive brushing with a stiff brush.....it's tough. Gasoline will soften this stuff and then it peels off. Price is over the top expensive IMO. Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments about KiwiGrip Non-Skid Deck Coating: I have had this product on my fishing boat for about a year. I will never use it again. It is easy to apply and looks great in the beginning but it is not a long tern useful product. Product deterioates with gas so be very care putting gas in your boat. Product wares out very easily and when it does its like there are little air holes in the deck that will hold any kind of dirt and stains. I wish I never applied this product to my decks. My decks look worse now than before I applied this product. Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend the deal breaker for me was the comments that it dissolves with spilled gas and peels off after. a little spilled gas is fairly common on most boats and any product made for boats should be fuel safe but KiwiGrip isnt. before using KiwiGrip it would be cheaper to get a bed liner sprayed in your boat and that would be impervious to gasoline |
