This If it were me, I would also add a support lengthwise across the middle so you can still flip it up while maintaining the most surface area for your foot. |

I feel ya. I would add the plate Alpha, but have it rest on top of an added cross beam so that one of your kids or yourself doesn't stand on it and bend it downward in the center. I wouldn't just put a plate without adding some support to the center. |

Sterlings in New Iberia or Cade at Acadiana props. Both do great work and will tell you the best way to support it.

Get a piece of starboard and simply cut out the size you need and stainless screw or bolt it on your LP footrest. Starboard can be found at westmarine in black or white color, and is easy to work with.

get some seadek for your plate afterwards, it will keep it comfortable on your feet during the heat of the summer

Add a tube about six inches behind the foot fest bar that runs parallel to the step. Weld the plate in between the step and the newly added tube. make sense?

a bent lip is like adding an angle iron to it and it will be plenty strong unless you jump on it. |

True, but I wouldn't want to rake the bottom of the lip on my calf or a kids leg when the rest is flipped up - put a slit rubber hose over it and call it a day |

This is how i was thinking about doing it. I'm going to add a cross bar on the back side where the plate ends. That way it is supported on all sides.

Make 2 bends. One going down 1-1/2" or 2". Whatever the diameter of the pipe is, and another one going back underneath the plate about an inch. Strengthens it up as well. Definitely go with a material like seadek or hydroturf on it to keep it cool if your little girl likes to stand on it. Kids always seem to loose their shoes. At least mine does!

I have one that folds down on my boat and hate it. My ankle seems to find it every time I go out and it hurts like hell.
