30 mi out of Freshwater City and you will be on snapper and mangroves. I've caught them in water as shallow as 50'. South of Joseph's harbor are platforms in about 45-50' in the 104 or 102 blk (been a while) and there were plently of 10-20lb fish to be had. We were fishing out of Acadiana Marina at the time so we had to lock-out to get in the gulf. If fishing the 104's (?) Joseph's harbor is closer than out of FWC but you will run in a canal for a bit and the opening into the gulf has a few bars to watch for. If out of FWC you are a mile from the beach at the launch and then a straight shot to the grounds. If you can get some Pogey oil, cooked elbow macaroni and sinking commercial fish food and mix it up in a 5 gal pail it makes great chum to get the big ones up close to the surface. I have sight casted to 20lb+ snapper that were 10 feet down or less in a chum slick. As a bonus my son loved to snack on the macaroni!?!?
