Default Fishing for reds in the grass

I am looking for advice on how to best fish for reds when they are in the grass. Grass is too thick to fish under a cork or tight line plastic cocohoes. Don't know the name of the grass but it looks a lot like coon tail moss or hydrilla in fresh water.

Thanks for the advice.

Charlie

Agree. Sometimes silver or other colored spoons work better than gold, but day in and day out gold is most consistent.

I use Johnson gold spoons, spinnerbaits and top water frogs. Pull the spoon or spinner across the grass until you feel the bait come free of the grass let the bait fall then start working it again. Most of the hits come after you pull out of the grass. With the Top Water frog work it over the grass and stop the frog when you see a clear patch let it sit for a couple of seconds and the hit comes once the bait moves. With the frog let the red eat it before setting the hook. You will need to fish braided line because they like to bury the head in the grass. Hope this helps.

^^^^^^Is what I use along with a Baby -1, it's a small crankbait that only goes 1' under that water. When you throw that gold spoon you have to retrieve it pretty quick.

Not trying to find out your fishing spot but where in general do you find grass and redfish?
We used to fish for redfish with gold spoons in grass in the marshes behind the weirs but all those places are now mud flats.

Before 10 years or so ago it was thick like that in point aux chene. I use to fish a 3/8 ounce jig head no more than a foot under a cork with a 21-30 ct. shrimp tail threaded on. break the lil fins on the tail and put on tail first . The jig will punch through and after a few short pops they'll find it.

Here is an Article that a buddy of mine, Shane Curole, Wrote in Coastal Angler Magazine. It should answer a lot of your grassy duck pond questions.
