I'm pulling my hair out with a new rip tide. Motor is wired correctly and the 50 amp fuse is in place. The first trip out, I got 4 hours use out of it before it died. I took it to Minn Kota authorized service center and was told the brush holder was bad. Took it out this weekend and got maybe 20 minutes before the same thing happened. I was asked if I was running it hard. I do not understand this question because I was going against the tide for the 20 minutes but cannot believe that this would cause a brand new motor to burn up. I talked to a few other people and their salesman asked them the same question about running it hard. Is that the same as telling me I shouldn't run my outboard motor wide open? Has anyone else had a problem with these motors? I did return it to Academy with no questions asked and got a new one. Hoping this was just a lemon.

if I were you i would try to repeat the same conditions again a few more times to be sure this motor works correctly but if you have the same issue again with the new motor switch to a different size or type that doesn't use the same components as that one or if that isn't an option then just try a motorguide instead |

I've had the same trouble with mine since I purchased it. Always kept a spare set of brushes and brush holders in the boat for a quick change out. Used to get them from online @ Mikes Reel repair. They seem to hold up better than OEM

I run the sh#@ out of mine for hours every weekend. I have two batteries and run them pretty much until they die, which is normally my sign that it is time to go in. "Knock on wood" no issues yet and have run into grass, and oysters. I need another prop due to the oyster beds. I think maybe you're under powered. I have the 120 on a 20' tidewater.
