spaghetti grass is good, but the most durable is plain old salt grass.

We are going to dig Klumps of grass when it gets closer. More than likely during teal season. For now though we want to plant something to start the process of concealment and to hold the fresh dirt so it doesn't washout

Does the farmer have any restrictions on what you can plant?

But to answer your question... No. And the section of what we want to plant isn't that bigImageUploadedByTapatalk1409076482.114231.jpg Blind is 20' total length and and. About 3' wide "Go ahead, share your opinion! I won't cry" |

Not that y'all either. Looks taller in first picImageUploadedByTapatalk1409076724.968283.jpg
That's cut rice stubble in front of the blind. After seeing it, we are thinking of just transplanting small pods of Johnson grass soon so it'll hopefully take with that fresh dirt. I'm excited though it's an island blind and it sticks out way less than the blind we took out "Go ahead, share your opinion! I won't cry" |

Your best bet is to just wait for next year on the grass and lay down some cover that will keep you from slipping in the mud. Next brush your blind with green pine branches or big leaf oak branches, I mean an ugly amount! More than you are comfortable with. The green pine branches will last and will eventually turn brown.
I know it sounds crazy but it works. Ducks do not shy away from big brush piles just faces and heads of people. Make sure to cover the entire opening of your blind so that you have to cut your way out to shoot. I have personally smoked the ducks out of big overly brushed blinds that are brushed this way on Catahoula Lake, Honey brake Lodge, and other private spots around Louisiana. Trust me, this will work...if you can convince your buddies to let you do it! Just remember, that's how the Robertsons do it and I don't think they are new at this duck hunting thing. Duckaholic |

What ever you do, don't brush with roseaux (sp) or cat tail or cane of any kind. you will never get rid of it.
Here's a couple of pics using Pine branches |

We use willows bc it's natural around our area. It doesn't stick up much but I understand where u coming from. It'll be right come duck season. I'll post updates on this thread as it progresses

I agree with you on the roseau and cat tail and I can attest that the pine branches do work they just don't look very natural and they can be a little pokey for your eyes. Ducks are sometimes not as discriminating as we would like to think they are. You can catch lots of fish on an old beat up plug but it just feels better catching them on a newer shinny bait.

this is what we plant. grows fast but you need to plant now. looking at your photo you only need a little bit. you might be able to find the seed in lower amounts for cheaper somewhere else. |

We always used crape myrtles in Thornwell. They grow natural in fields and help with bugs.

Just sayin, you might consider planting rice in the rice field. It will blend perfectly....... You're plenty early enough...and the farmer won't run you off!!!
